Andrew Gibson

Andrew Gibson’s traditional family name is NgikunKaday, which means “Welcoming New Person”. Andrew lives in the Mossman Gorge community one hour north of Cairns in Far North Queensland, Australia. The Mossman Gorge is situated right in the middle of the famous, World Heritage listed Daintree National Park in far north Queensland.
Andrew is a Kuku Yalanji man from his Grandmother’s side and a Kuku Ngukul man from his Grandfather’s side. Andrew has lived most of his life in the Mossman Gorge community, taking on much of his Grandmother’s heritage, living and breathing the traditional ways of the Kuku Yalanji people.
Andrew was taught at a very young age about his culture and as he grew older, he began to express his unique cultural heritage through his art.
