The Artwork Story
Madja Julanji (Rainforest and Sea)
The original artwork by Emma Burchill is called “Madja Julanji” and is a visual description of the rainforest and sea. The vibrant colours depict the natural beauty, and the different plant life and foods that can be found in both environments. The outer circles are the rainforest, showing the trees within the forest, and the inner circles represent the natural cycles for collecting food during the different seasons. Behind the circles is the sea. The rainforest and the sea are the main sources of food for the Yalanji people.
