“Red Bark Trees” Australian Merino Wool Scarf

Mainie’s new Australian Merino Wool Collection features exquisite Aboriginal art designs created by traditional Warlpiri women artists.

Each gorgeous ‘wearable art’ piece is beautifully handcrafted in luxurious Woolmark certified Australian Merino wool, considered to be the finest wool in the world.

The secret to Australian Merino wool’s unique qualities is the short, dry winter season in Australia’s sheep grazing regions. Unlike other sheep breeds that grow a thick, heavy and coarse fleece in winter to protect against rain, sleet and snow, Australia’s Merino flocks are known for their fine, lightweight fleeces.

Like silk and cashmere, Merino wool is a natural fibre that feels soft and sensuous when worn against the skin.

Designed especially for discerning women who pay little attention to fast-changing fashion trends, a Mainie Merino wool scarf exemplifies timeless style and lasting value.

Each Mainie is destined to be a treasured heirloom piece that will be loved and worn year after year.

Mainie is committed to sustainable and ethical fashion principles. The authentic Aboriginal artwork designs featured in our collection have been acquired under licence in accordance with the Indigenous Art Code.

Royalties from Mainie sales are paid to the Aboriginal artists and their families.

At Mainie, we are dedicated to supporting Aboriginal women to earn an independent income from their own work and preserve their age-old cultural heritage for future generations.

The Mainie Merino Wool Collection is a spectacular showcase of stunning designs by Warlpiri women artists from the remote Tanami Desert region of Central Australia.

Due to the isolation of their tribal homelands, the Warlpiri were among some of the last Aboriginal people in Australia to make their first contact with white people. To this day, the Warlpiri maintain a strong and unbroken connection to their country and cultural traditions.

Every design in the Mainie Merino Wool Collection represents an ancient “Dreaming” story that was handed down to the artist through many generations of her Warlpiri ancestors over tens of thousands of years.

Each Mainie Merino Wool scarf is carefully presented in a handmade gift box with information about the provenance of the original artwork and the Aboriginal artist’s story.
